Good Things are Coming

We’ve all been there – you’ve waited for a while to save for an online purchase and the time comes that you can make the order.  And then… the waiting.  You know good things are coming and the anticipation of its arrival nearly consumes you each day.  For me, one of those moments was when I was in 5th grade and my parents had ordered me my very own cello to practice and play at home.  I had joined the school orchestra a year prior and it became apparent that I wanted to continue to play and having my own instrument at home would really help me continue to learn the instrument.  After what felt like an eternity, my cello had arrived and I was thrilled!  To this day I love that I had the opportunity to own my own instrument (although I do wish I played it more often 😊).

Just like my (rather large) package finally arrived, our lives are like that too.  God is a God of abundant blessings who has good plans for us both in this life and the life to come.  Some of my favorite scriptures emphasize this:

  • Abram (later named Abraham) and his wife Sarai (later named Sarah) experienced infertility.  I’m sure they would have been overjoyed with even just one child.  And yet in Genesis 15:5 we read, “Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, ‘Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can.  That’s how many descendants you will have!”  It wasn’t until decades later that this promise was fulfilled, but their good news came and God provided abundantly!

  • Matthew 14:13-21 tells the story of how Jesus fed the 5,000 from five loaves and two fish; and they had 12 baskets of leftovers!  Now we all know “the math doesn’t math” on this equation which emphasizes not just the miracle, but the fact that Jesus again comes to give in abundance.

  • “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 reminds me of one of my favorite Tauren Wells song “Joy in the Morning” that says: If it’s not good, then He’s not done.  No, He’s not done with it yet.

God is good, it’s His character.  And He longs to give His children good things.  You can rest assured that in Christ you already have good things, and all good things come from Him.  For me personally, I’ve just come through a season that was both hard and good at the same time.  And I can say with full confidence that God has used it for good.  I’m thankful that no matter what we face in life that we can continue to look ahead at the horizon of the future with hope knowing that good things are coming.
