One of my favorite Christmas songs is O Holy Night. The lyrics evoke a sense of sacredness that happened the night Christ was born. One lyric in particular stands out to me for the year of 2020 in particular: His law is love and His gospel is peace. I’m doubtful that any of us could say that we’ve not experienced fear, unrest or anxiety this year in some form of fashion. And this isn’t to say that we have weak faith or aren’t “spiritual” enough. It makes us human and experiencing a broken world right now. How much more a treasure this Christmas season is. For the opportunity to pause, reflect and remember that we serve a God who came into a broken world. He chose to make Himself human on a love mission to save us. As the lyrics says, it does make me want to fall on my knees in humility of the fact that the God of the universe cares so much about us that He would come down in the form of a man. He was with us. And He’s with us today, right now. In the midst of the brokenness and hurt He’s here. If He feels distant perhaps we’ve been focusing on the worlds problems too much and not enough on Him. This Christmas season I’m compelled to draw close to Him so that I can experience His love and peace. I pray that you have the opportunity to pause and do the same.
